YMCA Story of Impact
Evidence Chipadza joined the YMCA during the COVID-19 era, a time when physical participation was limited due to government-imposed lockdown restrictions for public health safety.
As a new member, she faced challenges since most activities were virtual.
However, she was immediately drawn to the energy and enthusiasm of the young people involved in the movement.
The commitment of YMCA members to making a difference in their communities inspired Chipadza to take on new challenges and fully immerse herself in the Y family.
Her journey with the YMCA has been transformative, exposing her to a world of impactful initiatives and personal growth.
In 2022, she was elected as a board member, serving as the Branch Chairperson for Youth Programs.
Working alongside a diverse team of volunteers, she quickly learned the value of collaboration and the power of collective efforts.
“As I pour my heart and soul into this role, I have experienced incredible personal growth and transformation.
“I have gained confidence, sharpened my communication skills, and developed a deeper understanding of the YMCA’s vision, mission, and core pillars,” said Chipadza.
Serving as the Youth Programs Officer has not only allowed her to contribute to her community but has also played a crucial role in shaping her own life.
In September 2024, Chipadza was among 36 participants from Africa YMCA representing Zimbabwe at the Climate Games Boot Camp in Nairobi, Kenya.
This opportunity allowed her to travel, network with other young African leaders, and learn how gamification can be used to raise awareness, empower, and inspire at-risk youth to become climate change champions in their communities.
“The lessons I learned, the connections I forged, and the impact I made will continue to inspire me.
“This journey has become a cornerstone of my life, guiding me towards a future filled with purpose and a relentless drive to make a difference,” said Chipadza.
